How to see the Statue of Liberty
Currently, we do not recommend going to the Statue of Liberty until the crown is reopened for passenger access and viewing. The current airport-like security line is very long and can take up to 90 minutes before you board the ferry to go to Liberty Island. Your best choice is to take the Staten Island ferry, which takes only one hour to complete and there is always plenty of room. Your pictures will be better, and you'll have more time to see the other sites in New York City (hopefully on the hot new New York Party Shuttle Sightseeing Tour). With the crown closed, the only attraction at the Statue of Liberty is the museum which takes about 15 minutes to complete. Here is some history of the Statue...

Garden Bridges Going Up in Popularity
Over the past several years, there has been a trend in this country, wherein millions of people have been leaving their homes to live in the great outdoors. Tired of the confinement that they feel in their houses, they are making the break, and choosing to rough it - sort of. You see, using good old American ingenuity, they've found a way to bridge the gap between the hinterlands, and the safety of home and hearth. After spending the day in the wilderness, they simply retreat to the security of the old homestead, and sleep snugly in their own beds. It's called outdoor living, a phrase that's been around for quite awhile, but which has a much different meaning than it had just decades ago. While...
Choosing The Right House Plan
Everybody would like to live in a mansion or a sprawling ranch but there are many factors to consider when choosing a house plan. There are also a few pitfalls that can be avoided by doing your homework and making the right choices. Before you commit to buying a stock or custom house plan, you should know how much of a house you can afford to build. A good place to get this information would be the bank that you might use to get your loan from. Once you know what your budget is, you can determine how much house you can afford and pick a house plan that fits that budget. One way to accomplish this is to call several homebuilding contractors in your area. Ask them what the building costs per square...

Experience the unique culture of San Francisco
Located on the USA's Pacific Coast, the city of San Francisco is one great big melting pot full of people from all walks of life. As a result, the city has developed and nurtured its own unique and highly colourful cultural identity. This hugely influential city has been largely responsible for changing attitudes and cultures throughout the world; and where San Francisco leads, the rest of the world follows - eventually! Being sited on the San Andreas Fault, one of Earth's most active tectonic plates, means that the residents of San Francisco continually live with the threat of earthquakes and this has certainly affected their attitude to risk. Almost entirely destroyed by a massive earthquake in...
How to Restring an Electric Guitar
For a newbie, this may seem a little intimidating. But with the right tools, a little knowledge and some practice, you'll be able to restring an electric guitar like a professional guitar tech. When I was gigging regularly, I would restring my guitar every week. My body chemistry is acidic and the sweat and oils from my hands would tend to dull the brightness of the strings as well as make them feel "dirty". For me, the bright sound and smooth feel of a new set of strings would inspire my playing. It became a ritual for me the night before the weekend's gigs started. I would sit in front of the TV and restring my electric guitar; my acoustic was much less frequent. OK, so you've decided you...
Delaware Valley Flood Results In Severe Damage
On August 18, 1955 hurricanes Connie and Diane passed through the Delaware valley area dropping over 8" of rain. Rushing water swept through the valley carrying with it homes, bridges, and debris. With little warning the Delaware River flooded creating havoc as a result. As the river swelled it became necessary to evacuate two camps located on Treasure Island and Pennington Island. Five hundred children from the camps had to be airlifted to safety. Fortunately there were no deaths associated with this disaster. Yet much damage to the local economy did result. The flowing river lifted up and swept away the Byram-Point Bridge. Four homes located in Byram, where the water swelled to heights above the...

Fastrack And Eager To Crusade In The Fast Lane
Slowdown in line to cross the Bay Bridges can be an awful long wait. At one time ferry crafts that carried the cars across the cove to get to the other parts of the different Bay places until the Golden Gate Bridge was built including the Oakland San Francisco Bay Bridge. That was to bring to a close the go back and forth problems of an escalating Bay Area population. Nevertheless, one thing for sure is these bridges always provide us and give a daily approach for crossing over to many parts of the Bay Area, but it hasn't solved the bottleneck and what seems to be immeasurable waiting to get across the bridges. A suggestion to answer the overburden and to give some simplicity was to figure a carpool...

The Bahamas became an independent member of the British Commonwealth in 1973. Nassau, the capital city, is located on New Providence Island. There are many historic sights including the Government House, the Queen's Staircase and the statue of Queen Victoria in Parliament Square. Things to Do Nassau is a fun port to visit, and...

Golfers around the world call Myrtle Beach the "Golf Mecca" and Hilton Head the "Golf Island". A geometry tutor has a particularly difficult job. While algebra is often said to be the first truly abstract mathematical discipline that most students encounter, geometry (which is usually taught the year after algebra is taught) requires that the student begin learning to apply the relatively abstract concepts learned in algebra to real life problems involving shapes and volumes. Geometry is a very applied mathematical science and, as such, any college or university program in the natural sciences or engineering will require students to be well versed in geometry as well as its more advanced cousin, trigonometry. The effective geometry tutor must be able to help the math student bridge the chasm...

Clearing up Myths about What Men Want
There is a lot of confusion these days about what men want. The stereotype is that men are only after one thing. And when they aren't having sex, they're consumed with work, sports, or video games. That is just as cliché as the stereotype that you should never give a woman your credit card. Sure there are men and women who live up to the stereotypes, but that's not really what men want. Problems come in relationships when we decide the stereotype is who we are supposed to be. There is no law of nature that says men have to be pigs. Men sometimes don't even understand what men want. This article will clear up some of the myths about what men want and fight some of the dumb ideas we have about...
Five Years and Five Continents: Completed at Last
"Never again," I said to myself over and over. I must have been out of my mind when I chose Majestic Magnolia, a gorgeous design I simply couldn't resist. It didn't matter to me that I was still a beginner and I had never stitched on linen. I thought I could tackle any project. Today, it's my crowning achievement, one that would take five long years and several trips around the globe to complete. The chart is barely legible anymore; faded, with coffee stains and who-knows-what-else. I saved it anyway. The magnolia with its creamy white blooms and dark lustrous leaves is a statement of beauty, even prettier that I originally imagined it. But, what a love-hate relationship we've had. "Never again," I...

Grand pianos are a relatively modern technology in piano design. Furthermore, they have proven to be the preferable design of choice for most of the world's top pianists and enthusiasts. Fear, Focus, and Then Some
Change is inevitable. Change is Life. Change is Good. These are the things that come to mind when I hear the word change. Even as I sit here on this beautiful, slightly overcast morning listening to the birds chirping and sipping my coffee, I know that today will be different than every day before this and every day after this. I especially know that what I choose to do today will affect everyday that comes after this day. My thoughts, words and actions, like a stone thrown into a pond, will create ripples in this world for years to come. So, what do I choose to do this day? And perhaps more important, what do I choose to change this day? There is a saying that goes "If you keep on doing the...
Modern Tennis Clothes Bridge The Gap Between Tradition And Style
There was a time when selecting tennis clothes was quite a simple endeavor; the tradition of wearing tennis whites made the selection process quite streamlined. However, as anyone who follows tennis knows, the days of watching Martina Navratilova or Jimmy Connors take the court wearing all white are long gone, and today's game is one that embraces fashion forward styles and functional fabrics. Today's best players, like Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova, are often seen in apparel that spans the spectrum of color and fashion; not surprisingly, the rest of the tennis world has followed suit. Today's tennis clothes look great on and off the court, and they are made with performance fabrics that surpass...

The Aborigines adapted remarkably well to the huge area of the Australian continent. Without maps to help them navigate through the land, and without pen and paper to help them record their harsh environment and landscape, the Aborigines did remarkably well to navigate this vast continent and survived and thrived. Their sense of geography was not only highly accurate but also highly sophisticated. How did they do it? The Aborigines passed geographical information on by means of stories...

Be smart, play smart, learn the right way to play craps! If the payoff for a Don't Pass Odds bet equals the amount of the Flat bet, then the Odds bet is bridged. The part of your Odds bet that's equal to the Flat bet is placed directly next to the Flat bet. Then, the rest of the Odds bet is placed on top "bridging" them. For example, suppose you make a $5 Don't Pass bet and the shooter rolls a point of 8. Knowing the true odds for the 8 are 6:5 (i.e., six ways to make a 7, and five ways to make an 8), you then lay $6 in Odds with the hope of winning $5. In this example, if you win the $6 Odds bet, you win $5, which exactly equals the amount you win with your $5 Flat bet (i.e., your $5 flat bet is...

Ansel Adams; Changing Photography Forever
Ansel Adams, most widely known in the photography world for his immaculate and accurate view of nature, changed the way people looked at photography. Adams described himself in three ways: a photographer, lecturer, and writer. But in actuality, you can combine these three facets and call him a communicator. Born in 1902, Adams photographic vision was born immediately as he spent his childhood growing up in the natural beauty of San Francisco, California. As a shy and lonesome boy, Adams typically took long walks in the still-wild reaches of the Golden Gate observing and enjoying the nature. Ansel Adams' true passion for nature photography came from the Yosemite Sierra, where he spent substantial...
The Impact Of Heat On Metal Buildings
Many developers are increasingly choosing to construct their buildings out of metal for various reasons. Metal buildings are stronger and less vulnerable to the ravages of time and weather. Because metal is inorganic, the owner does not have to worry about the structural supports of the building being damaged by termites, mold, rot, or fungi. Using metal to construct the building also lessens the risk that the building will become warped during construction, allowing the building to be built with right angles and ensuring that all of the windows and doors in the building will open and close properly for the life of the building. One feature that has many individuals clamoring for a metal building is...

Finding The Best Mississippi Crappie Fishing Spots
The great thing about Mississippi crappie fishing is that excellent catch can be found on many lakes year round. The History of Business Loans
The first business loans possibly date back to ancient Greece. One of the most important services offered by Greek bankers was the lending of money to finance the carriage of freight by ships. They also lent money for mining, and construction of public buildings. Later, during the middle ages, the Jews fled for their lives to Italy, where they encountered grain farmers looking for money to help support their businesses. The Christians, who were the current settlers of Italy, were forbidden the sin of usury, or charging a fee for the use of money. Today, the word usury is used to describe placing unreasonable interest rates on borrowed money. Therefore, this opened the door for the newcomers, the...

Three Essential Steps for Building the Bridge
Meeting IT Compliance mandates is an immediate goal faced by most organizations. Through the use of ALM tools, IT organizations can manage software requirements, track source code changes and monitor software deployment. Regardless of these tools, the process is not perfect because it is missing a critical component of the software development lifecycle: the application build. The application build process is the final piece of the IT compliance puzzle, and it is complicated by ad hoc build scripts written in Make or Ant/XML. Ad hoc build scripts are the most common methods used to manage application builds, yet they don't meet the four essential requirements of IT governance standards...

Do Fish See Water?
Fish do not see the water they live in because that is all that they swim in. It has become an invisible part of their experience. It is not only in their environment but in themselves.
